Szekely land - Corund, Praid, Sovata

(Another amazing objective is The House of Exotic Butterflies - but the visit depends on the period of the year the tour takes place).

Afterwards, go to Sovata, the place where a lot of people come for relaxation:  Sovata is renowned for its therapeutic properties. The town boasts saltwater and mud lakes that have been used for centuries to treat various health conditions. These lakes are especially beneficial for gynecological and rheumatic ailments.Sovata’s lakes are not only therapeutic but also unique due to their heliothermal nature. Above the salty water, there exists a layer of fresh water from precipitation. This fresh water doesn’t mix with the saltwater but acts as a thermal insulator. As a result, the lake temperatures vary based on solar heat accumulation in the salty water. The Ursu Lake stands out as the largest heliothermal lake in the world and the only one of its kind in Europe! You will get the chance to be accomodated in this area.

Day 6
Rimetea village and Rosia Montana

Next stop will be Rimetea, a picturesque village nestled in central Transylvania. Here are some fascinating details about this charming village: Rimetea is renowned for its unique white houses adorned with dark green shutters. This architectural style, found only in Rimetea and partially in Coltesti, reflects the identity of the well-off locals from the 19th century.  Over half of the 300 houses in the village still conserve this specific architecture, preserved with the support of the Transylvania Trust Foundation. Rimetea holds the distinction of being the first village in Romania to receive the Europa Nostra award for the preservation of its architectural patrimony.

Afterwards, an important objective on our list will be Rosia Montana mining landscape. This is a place that dates back to Roman times, when here was established a gold mine. Through the ages, it has been intensely exploited, and in modern times, there was a campaign against mining at Rosia Montana, one of the largest protest movements in Romania in the last two decades. Organizations like Greenpeace and the Romanian Academy opposed further exploitation. In 2014, the Chamber of Deputies rejected another mining project. Rosia Montana has been classified as a historic site of national importance, prohibiting industrial activity in the area today. The preservation efforts and cultural value make it a unique destination for visitors, so our eco tour cannot miss this opportunity to learn about the struggles of nature protection.

Accomodation in a village in the area.
