Rogoz Church

The church from Rogoz, also known as the Church of the Holy Archangels, is located in the Rogoz village, Maramures County. The church was built in 1633 and survived many Tatar invasions, referring to the 1717 Tatar invasion as "the terrifying year 1717 of the time of the Tatars" in its inscriptions. The size of the nave windows was increased in 1834, and the church was relocated to the village's heart in 1883. The church is almost entirely constructed of wood, with a few stone blocks and pebbles working as the building's foundation. Murals which date back to 1785 are beautifully painted throughout its interiors. The asymmetrical roof of the Rogoz church distinguishes it from other churches since it was built with the outside worshippers standing throughout the ceremony.

Completely particular to this church are the ends of the beams that support the eaves, carved in the shape of a horse's head. The master-beam presents, in the west, the Sun with the Moon on its chest, the moonlight  and the stars.
