George Enescu International Music Competition 2026

During the anniversary edition of the George Enescu International Competition 2026, the audience is invited to one of the most valuable series of chamber concerts of the fall. Between September 4 and 18, the Romanian Athenaeum becomes the space for exceptional musical encounters, in which the chamber and solo repertoire, from Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms to Ravel, Prokofiev and Bartók, highlights interpretative refinement, virtuosity and artistic dialogue between generations.

September 4 | Claudio Bohórquez & Péter Nagy
The series debuts with one of the most acclaimed cellists of his generation, Claudio Bohórquez, member of the jury of the Enescu Competition 2026, alongside pianist Péter Nagy. The program is entirely dedicated to Robert Schumann and follows the multiple facets of his creative universe, from the intimate lyricism of Fantasiestücke and Romanzen to the expressive depth of Märchenbilder and the famous Dichterliebe cycle.

September 6 | Mihaela Martin, Frans Helmerson, Miguel da Silva & Enrico Pace
A recital that brings together four of the most respected names in European chamber music. The president of the Violin Section jury, Mihaela Martin, cellist Frans Helmerson, violist Miguel da Silva and pianist Enrico Pace propose a program built around essential landmarks of the chamber repertoire, from the tense expressiveness of Beethoven's String Trio op. 9 no. 3 and the elegance of Grieg's Sonata no. 2, to the monumental Piano Quartet no. 1 by Johannes Brahms.

September 10 | Nemanja Radulović & Laure Favre-Kahn
Winner of the George Enescu International Competition in 2001 and member of the jury for this anniversary edition, Nemanja Radulović returns to Bucharest in a recital that reflects his spectacular artistic personality. Together with pianist Laure Favre-Kahn, the violinist proposes a colorful and virtuosic program, with works by Bartók, Franck, Prokofiev and Ravel, in an evening in which the tradition, expressiveness and dramatic force of the repertoire meet in a musical dialogue of great intensity.

September 12 | Alissa Margulis, Alexei Volodin & Ștefan Cazacu
Member of the Enescu Competition jury, violinist Alissa Margulis, pianist Alexei Volodin and cellist Ștefan Cazacu, laureate of the 2020–2021 edition, bring to the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum two of the most impressive works of the chamber repertoire: Beethoven's "Kreutzer" Sonata and the moving Trio in A minor by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - composed "in memory of a great artist", a work dedicated to the memory of Nikolai Rubinstein.

September 16 | Marie-Ange Nguci & Hyeonjeong Lee
Pianist Marie-Ange Nguci, member of the 2026 Enescu Competition jury, and violinist Hyeonjeong Lee, laureate of the 2024 edition, propose a program that puts French refinement, late romanticism and 20th-century modernism into dialogue. The audience will be able to listen to works by Ravel, Ysaÿe, Beethoven, Liszt and Prokofiev, in an evening dedicated to virtuosity and sonic imagination.

September 18 | Nelson Goerner
The recital series concludes with one of the most acclaimed pianists on the international scene, Nelson Goerner, a member of the 2026 Enescu Competition jury. The solo recital brings together three fundamental landmarks of piano literature: Johann Sebastian Bach's Toccata in C minor, Robert Schumann's monumental Fantasie in C major and Franz Schubert's Sonata in C minor D.958, in a program that explores the depth of pianistic expression from Baroque to Romanticism. Each of these recitals represents a rare opportunity to listen to artists who are shaping the standards of international interpretation today and who, within the Enescu Competition, contribute to the formation of the next generation of musicians.
