The delta of the Danube River represents one of the last natural paradise in Europe, a network of channels, lakes, and lushly vegetated forests. It is home to a fascinating mix of cultures and peoples and a huge diversity of birds, presided over by the greatest of them all, the pelican. The Danube Delta is a refuge for people like you who love the peace and quiet of nature.
Transfer from the airport to Tulcea, at Hotel Insula 3 *, located right in the port, near the train station, on a small island. Accommodation at this beautiful hotel and we will accompany you to dinner to discuss how our tour through the delta will unfold.
After breakfast, we will leave Tulcea by boat and headed to the village of Crisan, located in the heart of the delta. We will cross the Sontea and Olguta canals, pass over Lake Nebunu and see a lot of birds and plants on our way to Crisan. You will have lunch on board, on the way, and the accommodation will be at a guesthouse in the village, where you will have dinner.
In the morning, breakfast, than we visit the village of Letea, after several hours on canals and lakes. Normally, the humidity should be high enough, so that we can see birds around us all the way and near the village, where we will sail more slowly for 2-3 hours. It is the ideal place to observe waders, herons and crakers. After having lunch on the ship, we will return to Crisan on another route to see other canals. Accommodation in the same guesthouse.
In the morning, we have breakfast, then we go by boat to visit Sulina and, if the weather conditions allow, we will go to visit the newest island of Europe, Island K, located between Ukraine and Romania. This is the breeding place for some very rare species of seagull: Pallas's gull (Larus ichthyaetus) and Little tern (Sterna albifrons). After that, we will have lunch on board and visit the beach in Sulina, for more bird watching. In the afternoon, we return to Crisan for dinner and accommodation in the same guesthouse.
After breakfast, we go on a visit to the village of Caraorman, an old fishing village from the heart of the delta, and then visit Lake Puiu. We take lunch on the boat, then we head to the village of Mila 23, passing on the lakes Bogdaproste and Trei Iezere. Accommodation and dinner at the guesthouse in Mila 23, a small picturesque fishing village.
Starting in the morning, after breakfast, from Mila 23, we go to visit a very interesting monastery, Batag, located in the middle of the reed area. Then, after lunch, we will continue our day with short trips with small boats, in very wild places, where we will be able to watch birds 1-2 meters away. It is a day when we will see penduline tit, pelicans, squacco heron, purple heron, king fisher, waders and maybe many more. Accommodation and dinner in the village of Mila 23 at the same guesthouse.
After breakfast, we return to Tulcea on the Sontea, Olguta, Sireasa and Mila 35 canals. Of course, we will make a short stop for coffee on Lake Fortuna. As for the birds, it will be a day full of birds such as: herons, wans, pelicans, egrets, white tailed eagle and much more. We will take lunch on the boat, which will include very tasty Romanian wine and, when we arrive in Tulcea, accommodation at Hotel Insula 3 *.
In the morning, we go by bus to visit one of the richest bird places in Romania, the beach called Vadu. In this context, here is a place full of surprises, because we could see more rare birds like Paddyfield warbler and Citrine wagtail, but maybe many more. It is the place of breeding for Collared pratincole, Black tern and Little Gull. We will have a picnic lunch, then return to the hotel in Tulcea.
Our adventure in the Danube Delta ends here and it is time to say goodbye.
