Outdoor pool & Jacuzzi
The spring water in the outdoor pool was 24°C, and that in the jacuzzi somewhere around 38°C. Just imagine the jacuzzi experience on a rainy day, or in winter when it is snowing, with water drops or snowflakes falling gently into the water.
The indoor pool is very generous, it is also filled with spring water, and its temperature is around 30°C. The large windows of the building connect the interior space with the exterior, thus the atmosphere is extremely pleasant.
Hydromassage pool & Kneipp pool
Next to the indoor pool, there are also 2 hydro massage pools, one with salt water (38 °C – salt from Praid mine) and one with spring water (37 °C) which also has 2 waterfall jets.
The Kneipp pools have the role of activating your peripheral circulation, so one pool is filled with cold water (14°C) and one with warm water (36°C).
The spa treatments and massages are intended for detoxification, re-mineralization, oxygenation and revitalization of the whole body, body care, health and stress relief. Regardless of whether you opt for the thermal circuit or for other spa treatments, you will have the opportunity to make any such experience a personal, couple or group experience, according to your preferences. Morning drive and then enjoy an easy walk in the forest, heading to St Ana lake, Mohos peat bog (outlandish landscape, harboring a handful of relict protected plants), and search for the bear, while sitting relaxed in a hide.
Surrounded by lush forests in an extinct volcano, the Saint Anna lake is the only volcanic lake in Eastern Europe. It is situated at an altitude of 950 meters, not far from Balvanyos resort. Short drive to visit the lake, then we check its twin crater, which is four times bigger, sheltering a peat bog – Mohos nature reserve.
It is believed that the first human activity here took place 700 years ago. In 1654, two chapels existed here – St. Anna and St. Joachim. The place was famous for pilgrims, as it was believed that women who had fertility problems cured after bathing in the Saint Anna lake’s waters.
Initially, the surface of the actual peat bog was covered by a lake, which was four times bigger than the Saint Anna lake. During time, its surface was covered with peat and vegetation and for the moment, only a couple of patches of water can be seen on the installed thematic trail. It’s said that in about 70 years, the entire surface will be covered with moss and peat. The Mohos peat bog is also famous for the presence of the Sun dew (Drosera rotundifolia), an insectivore plant which can be spotted just near the trail.
Return to the hotel for lunch.
In the afternoon we’re searching for the brown bear – Romania shelters the largest European population, and here in the area there are many records of this species. The bear hide offer a high view quality, especially for wildlife photographers that are looking for the perfect shots of the bears and other wildlife as well: lynx, fox, wolf, wild boar, deer, or bird species like the black woodpecker, the ural owl, etc.
Return to the hotel in the evening.
