Transylvanian Highlands - destination for slow travel

If you want to travel different, Romania is the perfect destination for you, because it is home to some untouched regions where traditions and nature thrive.

In the heart of our country there are the Transylvanian Highlands in the "golden triangle" between Brasov - Sighisoara - Sibiu. You can take a few days to discover this region with a slow-travel approach as we are about to suggest you here!

As you leave the cities behind, a world of simplicity starts to unravel: green hills nestled between mountains, wildlife and livestock everywhere you look (bears, storks, cows, sheep), traditional Saxon houses strewn across the country roads (sometimes even with cobbled stone), horse-drawn carriages which make you want to hop off your car and take a ride with them, fresh air, medieval fortified churches which invite you inside to see the history they hide. You can stop in any of the villages that you will go through and we promise you that you will find something interesting in each of them, because the locals are welcoming and very inventive! They are reconditioning their old houses in order to keep their authentic style with beautiful colors and host travelers inside their traditional rooms, creating local gastronomical points inside their kitchens and yards and feeding travelers if they are hungry, offering exciting farm experiences where travelers can see exactly how food is produced. So the activities inside these Transylvanian villages are focused on rural tourism, and outisde of the villages nature awaits - for hiking, bike rides, birdwatching.

Here are some specific spotlights not to be missed:

Viscri UNESCO village - with its famous fortified church and Kind Charles' House, a good start for history immersion

Saschiz village - with its beautiful and tall church with tower and fortress (if you like climbing up stairs and hills!)

Biertan UNESCO village - another famous fortified church found on the hills where Via Transilvanica travels through

Hoghilag village - Tuberose Land, perfect to visit in the summer when the flowers bloom and you can participate in gardening activities

Cund village - where you can discover a local cheese manufacturer, good for gourmands

Somartin village - where you can participate in traditional bread and chocolate making, good for wanna-be chefs

Hartibaciu train track - between Hosman and Cornatel villages, the old train ride takes you slowly through green pastures where you can do birdwatching

We can take you to any of these destinations, slowly, authentically, with a private driver and attentively selected experiences and accommodations, since we know this region first-hand, with the help of Transylvanian Highlands Association.
