Cluj Napoca - the youth heart of Europe!

The vibrant city of Cluj-Napoca (known simply as Cluj), is located in the heart of Transylvania, in a picturesque area, with a special charm given by the 2000 years history, geographical location and its people, a place where life has a slower pace!

When walking in Cluj, you will see there are youths all around as many students are living here. So there is no wonder in 2015 Cluj-Napoca was named the European Capital of Youth, and later in 2018, European City of Sports.

The city is an entertaining and vibrant destination, and there is always something to enjoy (a party, a cultural highlight, a concert, a festival and so on). For three weeks every year, all eyes turn on Cluj as the city hosts 3 of the country's major international festivals: Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF), Electric Castle music festival and Untold - one of the largest dance&electronic music festivals in Europe.

Day 1

Arrival in Cluj Napoca and meeting with the guide. Transfer to the hotel where you will overnight for the next 2 days, and free time to spend as you wish.

Accommodation in 3*, 4* or 5* hotel (depending on your preferences), breakfast included.

Day 2

After breakfast in the morning, the guide will pick-you up from your hotel and you will start to discover Cluj-Napoca. The tour includes the most interesting sights and architectural buildings of the city.

The center of Cluj-Napoca consists in a series of beautiful landmarks such as parks, historical buildings, statues and narrow old-fashioned streets.

We will see Matthias Corvin mounted statue and the old St. Michael's Church in the Union Square, Teleki and Banffy Palaces (the former now housing the National Art Museum), the Franciscan Monastery, the first Unitarian Church in the world, the Piarist Churches, the Mirror Street (Iuliu Maniu Street - an unique architectural accomplishment dating back to the late 1800s) and Matthias Corvins' place of birth, a former 15th Century hotel, now home to the Visual Arts Academy.

During the afternoon, we spend a relaxing time visiting the Botanical Garden; it spreads over 14 hectares and contains among others a small Japanese garden, greenhouses for equatorial and tropical plants, a small water course through its middle, and a tower which can be climbed to get a better view of the garden arrangements.

Free evening to explore Cluj as you wish.

Day 3

After breakfast in the morning, short time for shopping or just taking a break downtown, before your departure flight. Transfer to the airport.

For those willing to escape all that city-rumor and step into nature, we can add an extra-day and some activities, such as:

Trip to TURDA SALT MINE (35 km, 4 hrs)

The place is ranked among the "25 hidden gems around the world that are worth the trek" (Megan Willet, Business Insider, 2013). The excellent state of preservation of mining and machinery used to transport salt, together with the cautious work carried out for preparing the mine to become a tourist attraction, have made history and legend meet harmoniously here.

Trip to TURDA GORGE (Cheile Turzii, 4-5 hrs)

This nature reserve contains one of the richest and most scenic karst landscapes in Romania. More than 1000 plant and animal species live here (some of them rare or endangered, like the wild garlic or some species of eagle). The canyon is nearly 3km long, with 300m-high walls sculpted in weathered limestone. Walking the gorge's length takes roughly 1½ hours each way.
